One Year Sworn
Friday Jun 18, 2021
Friday Jun 18, 2021
It has been one year since Dex returned to LMPD. Since his return, he, just like his fellows brothers and sisters of the thin blue line, has struggled with the madness facing law enforcement the past few years and has wondered if staying in the profession is still worth the risk. After attending an Adam Davis speaking event put on by the Louisville Metro Police Foundation, Dex remembers why he signed up to become a police officer, why he left in 2018, why he came back and why he is choosing to stay not only within the profession, but also his department. He realizes that everyone has their own reason for deciding to stay or go and that everyone has to do what is right for their lives and their families.

Dex realizes that some of the things that he says might be seen as controversial or insensitive, but he is adamant that the biggest issue between opposing views and beliefs in reference to this topic is the lack of respect on both sides.

It is early in the AM and Dex is up with a heavy heart and thinking about all the men and women who died while in service to our great nation. Not only is he thinking about those who have passed over the last 20 years, he is wondering to himself, like he has done ever since being wounded in Iraq in 2005, why God decided to spare his life and not his brothers. Dex reads a soldiers last letter who died in combat in Vietnam and the letter of soldier who fought in Operation Anaconda in Afghanistan. Dex also reads a small snippet from his book "I Am Pitts" and urges his fellow veterans and American citizens to not forget the meaning of Memorial Day. *Explicit Language Warning*
What better weekend than Memorial Day weekend for a reunion 15 years in the making. It has been 15 years since Randy, Josh and Dex have been together in the same place. The last time they were all together was in 2005 in Iraq. 15 years prior to this day, we were young soldiers in our early 20s ready to fight America's latest war. The three share memories of the war in Iraq and share memories of their fallen brothers on this somber and honorable weekend over a bottle of Larceny Bourbon.
